    Yes, it will only burn at 4X.

    They will only burn at all if your firmware supports the media,my dads 4x liteon wont burn certain 8x due to crappy firmware support.

    IMO
    As long as the A05's firmware supports the media. If you haven't already, go to pioneer's website and get the latest firmware for the A05. Then flash it. This way as the new media comes out, you'll be able to burn it without much problem.

    Remember, Pioneer didn't know 8X media and the codes back with the A05, so the new firmware will tell it.

  7. The media code list on Pioneer's website states that while other burners may need firmware updates to burn faster media the Pioneer does not. So, as an example, you can burn 8x, 12x, 16x media in a Pioneer DVR-106 without an update. Of course it will be 4x max.
