  1. I have no problems getting subtitles correctly when encoding an MPEG-file from a DivX/xvid movie avi, in TMPGEnc with PAL or NTSC. But the problem is that when I use the Inverse Telecine option (which is required for some of the movies that I want to convert, in order to get smooth playback), the subtitles appears only like 10% of the time, or not at all.
But they work perfectly if I don't use Inverse Telecine, but then again I need it!

I know I have encoded some movie files before with telecine without problems, but somehow it won't work properly anymore. I have reinstalled TMPGEnc, Vobsub, and DivX codecs with no positive result.

    Help is greatly appreciated

  2. are you talking about applying a 3:2 pulldown for avis you have that are encoded in 23.97 fps?

if so, you can leave them at that framerate. in the tmpgenc settings, make sure telecine is unchecked, and that the framerate "23.97fps (29.97fps internally)" is selected.

  3. Geek rock thanks for your reply.

I have tried these settings amongst others -
NTSC, Film movie, No inverse telecine, 3:2 pulldown, 23.97fps (29.97fps internally), but the playback is then like in slowmotion. I have also experimented with these settings for PAL encoding, but the playback is only smooth and "original" if I have Inverse telecine checked. But then the subtitles won't appear
The movie I'm trying to encode into mpeg is 25 fps originally, DivX. I have tried other DivX movies also, that worked fine before, but nowadays I just can't convert them correctly! This is driving me mad.
    Please help!

Post your AviSynth script here ... I can help you

Also please verify this ... from my understanding you are taking a 25fps MPEG-4 (be it DivX or Xvid) and trying to make it into a NTSC DVD ... correct?

    P.S.
What is the resolution of the MPEG-4 file and what is the running time (at 25fps)?

  5. Fulci: I installed AviSynth but I can't understand what to do now, to "post my script from the program"? I don't see an executable program from the programs folder, its just a folder called Plugins.

    To answer your questions:
    The runtime of the movie is 01:44:01 @ 25 fps. 640 x 360.
    It's Xvid.

Well I am confused I thought you said you had done subtitles before. Are you talking about burning them in or making them optional subtitles and adding them at the DVD authoring stage?

  7. Fulci I meant burning them into the movie file while converting to MPEG, which I've done before. I don't want selectables, just permanent ones. It'll be a SVCD.

OK I thought that was what you meant but I have always used AviSynth to do it.

I don't know any other way of doing it.

  9. EDIT EDIT!!

    I found the solution

I just reinstalled Xvid codec (1.0.2) and the problem has disappeared!

Thanks for all the help anyway.
    It's appreciated.
