Like a lot of people I too have suffered from burn rings(on DVDs) and always blamed my media, but since I got a ACARD copy box things have changed, let me explain. In my computer I use a Pioneer 106 writer and a Liteon reader, in my copy box I use a Pioneer 108 writer and a Liteon reader, apart from the writers the only difference is the computer writes to the hard drive firrst, while the copy box writes on the fly, the copy box has never produced a burn ring. I use the same disks from the same batch, I have tried them both at the same speed 4X and with the copy box up to 8X, the computer still produces burn rings, some times 4 or 5 on the trot, but as I said the copy box has never produced one. I used to use ritek 4X for a long while but then changed to Datawrite Fuji 8X and still get the same results.
I know there is nothing conclusive in this, but it has made me think that perhaps its not always the quality of the disc that is to blame but maybe the way we burn them.
Is ther anybody who is using a pioneer 108 in there computer that suffer from burn rings.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean by burn rings.

I wouldn't call it suffering from. what these "burn rings" are is the spot on the disc where your drive has "shifted gears"/sped up. All the current drives made by Pioneer do not use CLV (Constant Linear Velocity) they use another form which if memory serves is called ZCAV (Zone Constant Angular Velocity). What this means is that when you set your burner to 8x for example the drive will burn about the first 10% of the disc at 6x then the rest at 8x. if you chose 12x it will be 10% at 6x 11%- 46% at 8x and 47% - 100% at 12x. if you chose 16x it will burn 10% at 6x 11%- 46% at 8x 47% - 90% at 12x and finally the last 10% at 16x. There is no way around this and the "burn rings" you speak of are not debtormental whatsoever. I have now burned thousands of backups with my 108 and every disc has "burn rings" from the speed shift and I have had NO problems whatsoever with these discs in any player.
The real answer lies in completely understanding the question!

Allthough not technical minded, I understand what you are saying, the only thing I don't understand is, why do I get burn rings on the computer with the Pioneer 106, but not on the copy box with the Pioneer 108.
