widescreen has nothing to do with the frame size - it's all about Aspect Ratio

    https://www.videohelp.com/xvcd.htm#tech

    XVCD PAL

    Video:
any kbit/sec MPEG-1 both variable and constant bitrate.
    352 x 288 pixels
    25 frames/second
    Audio:
    32-384 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
    Extra:
    Menus and chapters
    Still pictures in 704x576,352x288

    XVCD NTSC

    Video:
any kbit/sec MPEG-1 both variable and constant bitrate
    352 x 240 pixels
    29,97 frames/second
    (23,976 frames/second NTSC Film)
    Audio:
    32-384 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2
    Extra:
    Menus and chapters
    Still pictures in 704x480,352x240
So you see that you have to stick to standard VCD frame sizes (352 * 240/288) for it to be a ..... wait for it ..... compliant XVCD (bit of a contradiction of terms IMO, but anyways ...)

So just set your Aspect Ratio to 16:9 and everything else the same as VCD, maybe play with the bitrate or encoding method and you should be good to go.
    If in doubt, Google it.

My understanding is that VCD/SVCD(X)-(K) do not support widescreen. You can encode it as widescreen but many DVD players will not play it widescreen, they will display full screen with improper A.R.

That's why I have a 4:3 TV with true 16:9 switching. I can watch anything, and control the AR manually if necessary.

  5. Is that ratio on my encoder software or dvd because the last xvcd i burnt even at widescreen mode the heads were a bit bit ie: tops chopped off.

Would be nice to see it properly though

    What do you use ?

tmpgenc can do this very easily. Others may require you to resize correctly in something like virtualdub first.

Sorry, took me a second to get my mind right.

As Wulf stated, VCD does not support widescreen. That doesn't mean your particular player won't play it, though.

    Bit of a conundrum there, Nelson37 ?

I find it quite amusing and ironic too
    If in doubt, Google it.

  9. so i just tell tmpgenc to make it 16:9 resolution, then will be bars back? I miss my bars :'(

Also how the hell can there be a compliant XVCD.... Its non compliant VCD's and anything that breaks the bounds of VCD is XVCD so how can there be a compliant XVCD when there are 100s of different combos + its not supposed to be compliant
