Macroblocks question

ok heres how it goes

ok im using virtual dub and i am looking for filters to clean up macroblocks cause i have a bad source and i cant bring up the bitrate because i have to keep my file at a cetain size 1:03 of video the size of 20 megabytes and its 640x480. Now i have been getting mixed signals over using filters or changing some setting on the xvid codec so im not really sure what to use should i use adaptive quantisizer and global motion compensation and quaterpixel? and should i do fil affect fro the decoder options and should i use deblocking Y and deblocking UV. or should i stick to using filters and stop screwing with my xvid setting and if u do suggest this plz give me a good fiters. plz post anysuggestions

i have to keep it within this range too
xvid codec only
virtualdub only
23.976 frame rate
640x480 resolution only
and these ppl are tough so i need some help they have an eye for error

VirtualDub has a variety of filters built-in such as the temporal smoother filter.

However I prefer to use Convolution3D which is an AviSynth filter and my use of the VirtualDub filters are basic at best.

Having said that the temporal smoother filter in VirtualDub is your best bet.

SatStorm is good at VirtualDub filters.

well the thing is im using that filter but it still looks fairly blocky

but do u have any other suggestions

do u think i should use two pass instead of single

Is the source bad quality to begin with or are you only getting bad quality after encoding?

If it is the first then there might not be too much more you can do (knock on wood).

If it is the second then you need to raise the bitrate. Doing a multi-pass VBR can help too.

that filter is to fix - not prevent ..

it is also not a real fast filter .. but does a good job with tweaking around ..

Filters can enhance, but they're not miracle-workers. Garbage in = Garbage out.
