  1. My DVDRW is a Liteon SOHW 832s with SMART-BURN to avoid buffer underruns. Im wondering whether TMPGEnc DVD Author's DVD Writer Tool supports this function to help avoid creating error laced/dead DVDRs. I just burned a DVDR thru it and am experiencing some problems. I usually multitask while a burn occurs. Pehraps i should be using Nero Burn to burn the TMPGENc DVD Author created files ?

How about Nero Burn. Can i just create a new DVD ISO and drag/drop my TMPGEnc DVD AUthor files in it and have a fully functional DVD-Video?

My system: Athlon XP 2800+, 768MB DDR Ram, Windows XP Pro (SP2).

Dont do that. Others will say that they had no problems, yada, yada, yada, but I wouldnt do that.

You could you nero to burn the video compliant result from dvd author. You could also use ner to burn and image and have dvddecrypter burn the video. I use TMPGENC DVD Author and have not had a bad burn from it, however, I do nothing while it it burning.

  3. Curious. WHat happens when I do use TMOGEnc Xpress's DVD Writing Tool while multitasking? Does it abort writing in mid-burn and report an error or does it simply continue burning silently placing errors on your DVDR?

  4. Whenever you do any multitasking, you are making the computer do stuff from different areas of the harddrive.

When burning a disc, buffer underruns occur when the hard drive cannot supply the burner with data fast enough.

The underrun protection modern programs feature, read ahead, and store info in a buffer, which is continually being filled with new data, as it is written to the disc.

When you multitask, you make the data going to the buffer go more slowly and, if it runs out, you get a crash. But it doesn't write bad sectors, or anything.

The only multitasking I ever do while burning is surf the web.

As for TMPGEnc's burner, I haven't tried it. Nero works well for me, and I use it for everything, including TMPGEnc authored projects.

I thought burn-proof was a feature of the burner ... so the burner will detect that it's not getting the feed it requires and therefore waits until the buffer is filled before it writes the next setcion ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Burnproof should be a hardware thing, but I believe the software burning engine has to acknowledge it's there.
