I am completely stumped by this one.
A couple of days ago both my DVD Rom & my multi-format DVD burner started reading and burning very slowly.
Both drives read at a little over 1x. Today, I set an 8x Tayio Yuden disc to burn at 8x. It burned at less than 1x- It took 2 hours to burn!!
Both drives are set to DMA. I even tried the uninstalling the Ide channels trick. Nothing works. It occured to me that I might have a bad IDE cable, but then I remembered that both drives are set on seperate ide channels. I seriously doubt two cables went bad at the same time.
I have downloaded a lot of new trial software for a video project I'm working on. But this is a fresh install of windows- I upgraded my HD a couple of weeks ago so that I could put my old one in my PS2.
Has anyone seen anything like this? I would really appreciate any suggestions before I have to resort to reformatting. I'm lost.

Thanks for the reply.
I have two hard drives in my PC. One is an 80 GB that I use for storage. The other is a 6 GB that I keep just my OS & various software on.
Just for the hell of it, after I posted, I began ripping a DVD to the 6 GB because I had been having strange problems with the 80 GB- and it ripped at normal speed.
So apparently there's something seriously wrong with the 80 GB. I'm going to see if I can find some diagnostic software- if there is such a thing.
