  1. I have been using DVD-Shrink for quite some time and I think it is THE BEST ripper around.
My problem is DVD-Shrink can't rip and it can't see the contents of the DVD created from my new Pioneer DVR-720H-S stanalone DVD-Recorder.
I'm ripping it to the computer and do some great looking menus.
    I'm using the 3.2 version of DVD-shrink.
    Can anyone help?

    DVDDecrypter maybe ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Are you recording as VR instead of VOBs ?
Can't you simply copy the files to your HDD - they are not encrypted.

DVD Shrink seems to be a most inappropriate tool for this situation.

But DVDShrink is THE BEST ripper around

IIRC, TMPGEnc DVD Author can accept these files directly, if making menus is your aim.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I own a Pioneer 420H-s, and have had no problems ripping discs to my computer. Make sure you're finalizing your discs before you try to rip them. Also, if you're using -RW discs, make sure they are initialized in Video mode, not VR mode. NOTE: VR mode is not supported by most players/software. So only use VR mode if you intend to edit/playback on your Pioneer machine (or if you know your software supports VR mode).

The VOB stream from my Pioneer 220 recorder is really quite non-standard and isn't acceptable to many programs but the 'Quick stream Fix' in VideoReDo works extremely well in correcting this.

    So my flow is

DVDdecrypter to pull the VideoTS folder from the DVD
    VideoReDo to correct the MPEG
    re-author (DVD-styler, DVD-labs etc)

Unfortunately I don't think DVD-shrink will work because VideoRedo will have converted the VOB back into MPEG.

For non-finalised discs or Video mode discs (UDF mode packet at once) use ISO-buster professional to get the information off.

Sorry that was VR mode that you will need ISObuster for.

Question : Why use anything like DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to copy the files, which are unencrypted, to your HDD ? What is wrong with Explorer ? It seems like you are adding unnecessary steps, which are giving you grief.

People like me who use DVDShrink with DVD Recorder created discs use DVDShrink because you can SEE what you are ripping ahead of time. WHO CARES about the lack of encryption. The lack of encryption does not mean you should not or cannot use the computer tools available.

You will need DVD Decrypter because it can interpret the structure of the DVD-R correctly. From my recollection, if you simply examine a disc using windows explorer you do not see a video_ts directory with vobs & ifos inside, there is a special file structure which DVDdecrypter is clever enough to know about and reconstruct to the more usual form.

All this is from the top of my head, so if I'm wrong I'll post a correction.

You can't use DVD shrink, it doesn't understand DVD-R.

This is why some players are DVD-R or DVD+R incompatable. They can read the physical medium ok, but can't interpret it.

  11. First of all I like to thank all you guys because I just went out a couple of hours and I get so many help.
Second, I'm using the DVD on VIDEO mode not VR. I'm using TMPGEnc DVD Author to write the menus and I CAN really rip it with TMPGENC DVD Author but I would really like to use DVD-Shrink because of the freely compression that I can use but DVD-Shrink can not see the disc contents on the Re-author mode.
I have try DVD Decryter but I can't really put it to works and when it writes a file it will be a 0 byte file.

I've got a disc here made in a DVR-520H-S and it reacts perfectly in DVDShrink....even in reauthor mode.
The DVD comes up as LOGICAL VOLUME IDENTIFIER in my DVD drives.
When I redid this disc....I used DVDDecrypter then input to TMPGEnc DVD Author. There also is no AUDIO_TS folder....weird.
