I am capturing all my old vhs tapes to my computer to convert to dvd. I am after a free simple editor just to cut little bits out here and there. I dont need to add any transitions/titles/menus etc.
Its mainly to cut some boring parts out or to trim the ends a little. I want something that wont wreck the a/v sync.
I have looked in the tools section, but am still not sure which to use. BTW, the easier the better as I dont have much patience on the computer.
Also, just checking if i am going about the whole processs the right way.
    1. Capturing through my digital camera with either Studio 9 or WinDV
    2. Converting to vob with divx to dvd
    3. Editing with ? program
    4. DVD Shrink Re Author to put them all together on 1 dvd.
How is that? Right or wrong??????????
    Thanks to all who help.

    VirtualDub.

See here for steps on trimming.

    Process:

    1. Capture - WinDV is good
    2. Edit - See here for suggestions.
    3. Encode to DVD compliant MPEG2. TMPGenc or similar.
    4. Author - TMPGEnc DVD Author or similar (e.g. DVDAuthorgui or GUI for dvdauthor).

Converting to VOB with Divx2DVD is OK as long as it produces all your VOB, IFO and BUP files in a VIDEO_TS folder, along with an empty AUDIO_TS folder. But the tools I mention will do menus etc.

    5. Burn - Loads, see tools.

    Hope that helps...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

It's easier to edit AVIs, so IMO the best way is to capture to AVI, then edit with Virtualdub, then encode/author/burn as Daamon suggests. It also means you can take advantage of virtualdub, which really is the bee's knees when it comes to freeware IMO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. If you are capturing in DV, you will need to install a DV codec. I suggest that you install the Panasonic DV codec. I also suggest using as an editor, VirtualDub Experimental 1.6.2. as it accepts type 1 DV avi.

    See www.virtualdub.org

You might want to change this then:

That should say Type 1, shouldn't it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
