You will lose quality. Any re-encode will lose quality. Will you notice? Probably not.

    Anyway, try virtualdub.

You can't remove GMC without re-encoding. If you are refering to MPEG4Modifier, they were talking about using to unpack bframes, which is an issue with MediaTek based players.

Pretty sure that I heard that the player can handle DivX's 1 warp point GMC ok.

Open silent avi. Select audio->wav audio (it must be wav AFAIK).
Then you can select audio->full processing mode, Audio->compression, and select you favourite audio codec (mp3), configure. Select video->direct stream copy, then file->save avi.

Well you were warned. One thing to try is to filter or crop/resize so as to not compound artifacts by using the same macroblocks. Could also try a different quant matrix, how large was your first pass filesize compared to the original file? You did do 2 passes right?

I hear you on that..One step forward..Two Steps back. It will be an endless search for the player that plays all.

As far as I know no current or soon to be released chipsets can handle 3 warp point GMC. I really don't think a lot of stuff uses GMC though.

So for tha player that plays it all, I guess an XBox or a PC is the way to go.
