Add subtitle to avi file

Dear All:

I have some avi files with .srt chinese subtitle. I want to add subtitle to avi file so that I can play it with subtitle in my philips DVP642 DVD Player because the player do not support external chinese subtitle. What is the fastest way to do that? Do I have to re-encode the video? Please show me the detail procedure. I read some article in the web but I still have some doubt

I think what you need to do is apply virtualdub on it and filter the subtitle to it reencoding of course. For that read some guide.
