    I am not able to edit or play mpg files righty now because i cant not seek or search with the bar at the bottom because it will no let me. WMP played mpg file fine the other day but wone anymore. When its opening it says at the bottom unable to download decompressor. But the file still playes i just cant go to anywhere in the file i want. I have to let it play from the begining. i downlaoded a codec pack from microsoft and it didnt help. Any ideas. I need to find out because i have about 4 hours of tv shows that i need to edit before i put it on cd. Thanks for any help.

    That happened to me once before. The only way I got around it was to re-encode the file with TMPGENC. I then was able to open and edit it. Hope this helps!

    ill try that. But i cant go to any poing in any mpg file either. i can also record a new mpg file and it still doesnt work right.

    i tried it with a short 15sec clip and it still doesnt work. When i try to go to the middle it resets and plays from the beginning. The files played fine the other day. I read on a website that you could put the edited parts of a mpg file in a Zip file and rename the zip file to .mpg and paly it. could this be the problem? i installed IE 6, Windows Media player 7 and a codec pack from microsofts web site.

    I have not heard of that method you described. However, you can use TMPGEnc to splice and merge scenes together and if you so choose re-encode the output afterwards. However, the caveat is that the source files need to be the same, last I heard.
