im pretty sure i know but what would you all say about either config.. im setting up my mom an old office computer and its only got 256pc133 ram pIII866 cpu and i was going to throw another 256 stick in there for her but i only have pc100 sticks left.. i think the performance with 512 at 100 would be better than 256 at 133.. what ya'll think?

The real question is if the PC100 can keep up. The chip is supposed to have memory capable of 133MHz since that's the FSB for a pIII866. If you can put it in there and it works for an entire day you shold be fine. If it locks up, go back to the PC133. Some 100 chips can handle it, some cant.

If you can get it run at 133, all the better, otherwise you're slowing things down.

  6. PC 133 Mhz and PC100 Mhz RAm are around the same price I would try to trade it at a cmputer shop that deals with used computers and parts because where I am PC100 costs more then PC133 and there are abunch of computers still running that can only take PC100 RAM.

    Good Luck with that.

  7. Another thing is I had 2 computers a Celeron 900 Mhz and an Athlon 1.1 Ghz both with 256 MB of RAM in them and I added another 256 MB to each of them and didn't notice alick of difference !

I sell the PC100 chip and keep the money or put it away for an upgrade.

  10. Assuming the PC100 is fast enough, this is a no-brainer: 512 pc100 is going to be better than 256 pc133 in almost all cases. If you're not running the memory at 133 speeds, the 133 run at 100 vs 100 run at 100 will be only marginally faster - nothing you'd ever actually notice without benchmarking.

  11. I noticed a differnce running a computer at 100 Mhz RAM and the same computer at 133 Mhz ram.

You can change your RAM MHZ in your BOIS so you can see the differnce to use it for abit at 133 MHZ then switch it to 100 MHZ.

you see it's not worth switching to 100 MHZ from 133 MHZ

256 MB of PC133 is plenty.
