A friend of mine used to get his cigarettes over the internet from a company in switzerland. Well the US government finally got involved and this is no longer possible. He used to get the cigarettes for about $15 US dollars a carton. Does anyone know the price that cigarettes cost if you want to buy them in switzerland.

You can buy real, American made cigarettes from Indian reservations or other states online legally depending on which state you are in. Just google "buy cigarettes online" and you will get a ton of choices.

But PLEASE, if you are as fed up as I am with the fascist and greedy anti-tobacco hysteria gripping America today, visit this link about SMOKER'S RIGHTS:

There used to be a place called Cigarettes Cheaper here. They had cartons for about $15 or $16. Slowly their stores got worse and worse with keeping stuff in stock.

I smoke menthol and it's difficult to find here. This place started gradually running out ...I had to pick brands I had never tried before just to get menthol, and I will not smoke non-menthol ( ) unless the alternative is a nicotine fit. Eventually they closed up, and we pay $25 a carton again

Every time I get some it's a different brand ...currently Marlboro Menthol milds ....maybe bext week it'll be Basic or Doral ...whatever menthol they have. Gone are the good ole days when you had plenty of all the brands for 50 cents a pack ...I miss those days

Is that for a carton of 100 cigs? Wow... some people don't know how lucky they are... in the UK we pay 40+ pounds per carton... at current exchange rates I think that's around $80 a carton.

Every year the government prepares a budget, and the health fascist argument gives them great excuse to slap a couple percent more tax on it - its in a good cause (yeah sure, they have my best interests at heart..), and who cares about smokers anyway? Then they complain about the growing black market in smuggled cigs... It seems that governments here and in the US learned nothing from the prohibition era...

I've tried the gum and the patches. Never the lozenges. I suspect they'd be better than packing 20 pieces of Nicorette gum in my mouth Easier on the jaws too

Was it here that I read about there actually being people more genetically inclined to be addicted to nicotine? If it wasn't here, I'll summarize.

Basically, some people have a gene that will get them easily addicted to nicotine and some don't. Most people who have the gene have a damn hard time quitting, while most people who lack the gene can smoke without ever getting addicted.

Anyway, a carton is about $35 over here. I usually roll my own, it comes out cheaper. I buy a can of shag, which usually lasts about 1 box of 200 king size filters. So it's about a carton's worth of 100's, or longs. If I run out before I get a chance to hit the cigar shop, I smoke Kools or Marlboros. I'm a little more picky about brand, since I'm so used to rolling my own. The quality of tobacco is much better with the brand that I buy for hand rolling. The downside is having to roll one each time I feel like smoking.

When I was on vacation in Vegas, I pre-rolled 10 each night and packed them in my backpack. It was weird, being able to smoke inside. You can't smoke in any buildings over here.

I paid $64.50 canadian for a fresh carton of DuMaurier yesterday. 200 cigarettes, 8 packs of 25. I can't smoke american. They smell and taste different. Ours are like Rothmans.

You used to pay $15 a carton?
    I go thru a carton a week.

    mrtristan,

You ever look at one of the Bugler machines? Put your tobacco in the little trough, roll it part way, lick your paper and insert, roll the rest of the way?

Look like tailormades, your choice of tobacco, roll a couple dozen for a cig case, smoke all day. 10 minutes or less to roll another "pack".

Gonna have to try it again, myself. Everything tastes like shit, today, even the Camel non-filters I smoked for 40+ years. 5 bucks a pack, they can cram 'em. Smoke my 3 buck GT ONEs, or, better yet, my buck 35 Winchester little cigars. Stink, but who cares?

    Cheers,

    George

And ain't it a sin what a pack of papers costs? I used to get a carton of smokes for that money. (Duty free, after my ship hit the 3 mile limit.)

i think costco is about the cheapest -- a lot of bootlegged cigs down in chinatown though (but mostly american cigs) pretty cheap ..

other than that -- you have to go to the reservations strandling the border for cheap stuff (legal) - they may sell on-line , but in canada - im not so sure ..

canada brands are sold online in the usa , but i bet big issues shipping over the border (they will make you pay full duties and taxes i bet) ..

George - That's exactly the one I use. It sure beats hand rolling them. My brother bought me a machine from the place where we buy our cigars and I've been using it since. They sell the tubes with filters attached at the same place, so I usually buy a box of those. They're basically king size cigarettes without the tobacco inside. I haven't been able to make it to the cigar shop for the past two weeks, though. Christmas has been keeping me busy. I've been out of the filter tubes for a while, so I've either been hand rolling with the papers or buying a pack.

State taxes. That little stamp on the bottom of the pack tells all

How does that work exactly? What prevents you from ordering goods over the web from whatever state is cheapest? Actually, I seem to recall web pages saying something like "Califoria residents add 6% sales tax" - is the seller obliged to deduct sales tax for whatever state the buyer lives in, regardless of where the seller is in the US?

Even so, why don't you have a big smuggling problem between states? Eg. why doesn't some crook load up a big truck with cigarettes in a state with low sales tax, then sell them at a knock-down price in a state with high sales tax?

Re your comment: well, within the UK (for example) the prices are pretty standard, but the UK is part of the EU, which in theory operates a free market between EU countries, and the rules say that I can buy goods in any EU country and the sales tax paid is whatever is current in that other country: not the country the buyer is resident in. In practice, the Customs guys will impound large shipments of cigs or any other high tax item. If necessary, they will invent a reason later...
