Is Pioneer 108 the only burner that can burn 4X DVDxxx's at 16X?
I've look in rpc1.org for LiteOn, BenQ & NEC and didn't find any for them.
Did I miss something?
TIA to all who reply.

For some reason, Pioneer seems to have the greater following when it comes to hacked firmware, and a lot of sites have the "you saw it here first" type attitude. Sadly they're not always as good at promoting the "your recordings may not be as reliable as they should be" message.
Personally, I would agree with the manufacturers of the 16x writers - at the moment, in that only very specific media is consitently up to it, and all of that (which is documented) is 8x TTBOMK.
4x at 16x ? I very much doubt it...
Good luck, though ! -

-For LiteOn, CD Freaks is once again the place to look, and, once again, there is an abundance of firmware hacking for LiteOn drives.
-For BenQ, there isn't a lot of firmware hacking, except for region-freedom, but BenQ officially supports overspeeding. -
Bad burns, don't do it.

16x is a little too much; had a couple iffy, almost unreadable near the end (yet still fully playable) burns when I tried some RICOHJPNR01 Memorex 4x +R media on my NEC ND-3500, but 12x burns on the same media are quite nice, actually, not bad for 3x the rated speed. The recent firmware modifications for this drive have yielded quite a number of nice burns with overspeeding, numerous media types both -R and +R have been bumped up from 4x and 8x to 12x, and several 8x media types have been bumped up to 16x as well (the SONY08D1 I have actually burns at 16x with the stock firmware) - personally, I love this drive!

Burnt TTG01 (4X) media at 16x using DVDShrink, using modified firmware form my 108 DVDRW.
Actually, i burnt at 16X because i hadn't set the max write speed to a lower value in Shrink.
Burnt Disc ok, plays fine but a few CRC errors show up using DVDinfoPro towards the end of the write.
I won't do that again, but i couldn't believe it wrote and plays ok.

Thanks for all the infos!
FWIW I always backup a new DVD befor I play it, then play the backup.
I use pioneer 108.
Of 25 Ritek G04, only once did nero refused to burn it until I went to 12x burn.
Nero verified all 25 discs with the Decrypter's files.
The reason I started this thread is, my hack does not burn at 2x or 2.4x
and I have to burn my 2.4 at 1x!
CanuckGod, THANKS much for NEC 3500 report !!!
