    I recently found this:

    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-187-006&depa=1

A VIA KM266 PRO motherboard for $9.00 inlcuding shipping after two mail in rebates, $20, and $30 each.

The problem is, one of the rebates seems to be for the wrong item. The $30 rebate links to a $40 one for a model called PM800DMS.

Should I trust that NewEgg's description is correct and I will get the board for $9 eventually anyway or should I expect to be screwed over in the end, paying too much for it?

  3. Spend the extra and get yourself an Asus. You won't regret it - if the CPU is the beating heart of your machine the motherboard is the circulatory system. No good if it's under par.

I already have an ASUS... errr ASROCK. I really like my motherboard too.

I am only thinking about buying this one because it is so cheap. As a backup motherboard or maybe I will build a system with it for somebody down the line.

rebates = screwed in the end
I have had a number of very good experiences with rebates. Radioshack sent 2 checks each to me and a friend making their Ritek CD-Rs free after rebate. Best Buy also sent a check for a cool $50 making my MAG 19 inch monitor $99 AR. I have also had a number of bad experiences especially before I started sending the rebates with certified mail.

My worry is that the rebate itself is an error.

Ok, Newegg has since removed the $30 MIR from their item page making the item a much less attractive $39.99. However, I found a link to the $30 MIR for this motherboard here:

Since one of the rebates is "additional", it does not seem like there will be a problem combining them. However, because of the removal of one of the rebates from NewEgg's page, I am nervous. What would you guys do?
