could someone please help me or give me some advice what i might be doing wrong or overlooking i cant seem to get any dvds to play on my stand alone dvd player after converting avi files to dvd . i keep getting "this disk is not compatible" im using dvd-r disks and tried converting using "winavi converter" and "Xilisoft video converter" same problem. i can get it to play on one of my players,it plays all formats! my stand alone is a "Panasonic DVD recorder #DMR-E55 in the book it says it says "play only disks" DVD-audio(dvd-a),DVD-Video(dvd-v),video cd(vcd),audio cd(cd)can someone please tell me what i might be overlooking or not understanding? or even what i might try? thank you

  2. your better off using good branded media, instead of some princo or other crap brand,.sounds like cheap crap media, but you could always try copying with +r discs.
that or use another programme, instead of those "shady" ones.
rip the film with dvd decypter, then compress to dvd+r with dvd2one,then burn with nero or copytodvd, persay,
if its a backup already, then try to use dvddecrypter with iso read, iso write.
dvddecrypter - MODE-ISO read, iso write is where it is.

What did you use to burn the disk, and how did you burn it ? (i.e. did you burn it as a DVD Video or DVD Data disk ?)

What brand of media did you use ?

Can you play it in another player ? (i.e. take it round to a mate's place)

Media still seems to be the main culprit. You didn't say what brand you were using.

    Heres something else i found!
when i put the dvd i made in and opened it with dvd decrypter,it shows region 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. ok now in my standalone dvd manual it shows this:

    [Discs that cannot be played}

    2.6 & 5.2 GB DVD-RAM, 12cm (5")
    3.95 and 4.7 GB DVD-R for Authoring
Unifinalized DVD-R recorded on other equipment
PAL discs (you can still play the audio on DVD-Audio)
[/u]DVD-Video with region number other than "1" or "ALL"
    DVD-ROM,DVD-RW,+R,+RW,CD-ROM,CDV,CD-G,Photo CD,CVD,SVCD,SACD,MV-Disc,PD,Divx Video Disc,ect.

ok now is the region number screwing me up you think? if so how do i change it or what can i burn with to fix it..i f you can direct me to where i can find a topic on this that would be great ,i dont expect anyone to start writting a "How to" for me ,im not sure where to look if that might even be my problem. thanks again

region 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 should equal all, I think.
If you rip with DVDDecrypter, it defaults to "all regions" but you can force it to set a certain region if you want - like 1 in your case. That might be the problem, but then again the line: 3.95 and 4.7 GB DVD-R for Authoring seems very strange!

Seems odd that anyone would still be quoting DVD version one sizes anymore

oh well! thanks anyway. im so #$%$%^ frustrated i could just S*#T
iv got 4 dvd players and the only one that will play it would have to be the crappiest one that has hardly any options. im going to buy a surround sound hoe theatre system and i didnt want to have to make sure the dvd player would play svcd or vcd since it doesnt seem theres alot of players that support that format.atleast not when your looking for home system that has dvd player included, but it looks that way,im tired of sitting at this comp. and looking up post after post ect., besides the wife and kids are getting a little upset now

    thanks again

Could it be because they need to be finalized?
