  1. I used my 5001 Liteon to record my home videos from my vcr.
I finally got a dvd burner on my computer.
But for the life of me can't get it to copy
I know Sonic MyDVD is junk (on my brand new Dell)
But I just want to copy exactally one to another.
Also when I try to import I get a File Err 19013 but only when I try to import the first file on the dvd?! yikes help.

If you aren't burning the files from your hard drive, try copying the DVD to your hard drive first (just to make sure you are getting the data to the burner fast enough). Then just burn a "data" disc using RecordNow DX (should appear if you pick "Make a music or data disc" with the Sonic MyDVD wizard.

For those discs, easiest method is this one:
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdcopy/dvd5/dvd5.htm

The DVD+VR recorders use a non-standard structure that can confuse some software. Plus it sounds like you're trying to use authoring software anyway, wrong thing to do.

If you have a DVD-ROM -and- and DVD burner, then something like Nero, RecordNow, Prassi, etc, wil let you do disc-to-disc.

  4. I think I figured it out, of course I was up til 2am doing it.
I have to burn as a data disk?
I also tried the dvd decrypter but it wouldn't work.
When I tried to import from my home video DVD it will import all the chapters except the first one?

I really appreciate your assistance as I continue to be a newbie, threre's just way too much to learn!

  5. Did you finalize the disk on the recorder first?

  6. I didn't finalize it because it is on a DVD+RW, but I figured out that I needed to burn it (or so I thought ) as a data dvd. Which worked but when I went to watch the new copy I couldn't play any of the thumbnails, just the first one!

Does it have to do with the format LiteOn writes in ?
Also any idea why when I try to import it won't let me import the first file on the dvd?

    Thanks
I hate to buy an expensive program, I just want to do very basic copying. But it's so difficult!

You do not need to finalize DVD+RW.

    Yes, it's in DVD+VR format on a DVD+RW disc.

    What "wouldn't work" with Decrypter?
If you follow that guide to the letter, it should work.

  8. ok, still haven't figured it out, but I don't think the computer is recognizing my files on my dvd. It was made with my LiteOn Recorder and that dvd plays fine, now I want to copy my home video dvd and can't figure it out!!!!!

It's a brand new high powered dell I have. I downloaded a trial of nero and it wouldn't read the data. Any Any ideas?
    Please!

  11. I did just import with MyDvD the video from my original DVD, but it won't import the first video clip on the DVD. So anything I finally figure out there is another issue.

You're using the wrong software. You need to sit back and read some things first, don't try to jump all over the software.

  13. Thanks for the help, but it's all over my head.
All I want to do is copy a home video, nothing with macrovision and stuff and all this bitrate, avi, mpeg, ripping, converting stuff.
I've spent a good portion of my day wasting her on the computer!
    I don't get it.
But thanks for making an effort.

    So, Lordsmurf,

My daughter recorded Garfield, the Movie, from either PPV or HBO, and it does play, except for 1 glitch I observed halfway through, from which it recovered, although a few frames down stream.

She asked for me to put it on DVD+R to free up her RW. I cannot do so.

In Decrypter it goes to X and errors out, try again, have been up to 500 retries.

In Shrink, gets to point X, fatal error, or something.

Direct copy to HDD, VOB 1 gets 2/3 of the way through, and CRE, cyclic redundancy error, gotta stop.

I should have mentioned this is an 1LO without the HDD.

    Any hope, here?

I'm hesitant to buy one of these if they all make unbackable disks.

Is there ref to a demacro hack on digitalfaq, for the 1LO? I've been there, but not for this drive, just 411s and 811 and NEC2500 info. Nice setup.

    Cheers,

    George

Read errors can often be overcome by a good reader laser (ROM drive, usually ... I use an LG and BTC) and aggressive software (ISOBuster, typically).

This sounds like a media error, nothing more, nothing less. I bet a Nero CD-DVD Speed scan disc will show it as such.

My LiteOn 166 can't even see the disk. My 811 sees it but can't read past the errors. About 20 sectors bad so far, and they're getting closer together.

Was a couple minutes between errors, now just 10-15 seconds, and more like 40 sectors in a row, say 20 megabytes of bad data. Still plays with just a glitch or three. Haven't watched the whole thing.

This is with isobuster. No help.

Next try is to play it and cap it with the cap card.

    Cheers,

    George
