  1. Best Buy in my area, and hopefully yours is selling 25 packs o Memorexf 4x DVD-R's at $5.99. The only hitch is they are CMC. CMC seems to work fine in my burner and DVD player so there you have it!

I would not touch them with a billion foot pole.

  3. Sounds like a good deal if your burner likes CMC.

Might some of them be Prodisc?

For $5.99 I'd be willing to gamble, thanks for the heads up.

  4. That would be 12 dollar for 50 of them. 4x CMC

    for 8 dollars more ...

You might want to check out the verbatim's that best buy is selling this week for 19.99 for 50 ... 8x speed made by MCC (grade A ... in top catagory in Lordsmurfs List) . I bought 10 packs! Call them to make sure they have them in store ... mine HAD PLENTY!

  6. Not to mention Best Buy doesn't like "devil customers" but that's getting off topic. Memorex has only been problems for me.

  7. Well $24 plus tax is pretty good if all you're going to do is backup games, movies and other miscellaneous things on these discs. I mean cheap media has it's place. As long as it burns what's the problem? It's when the discs are below CMC quality where you have to worry because those won't even burn properly.

The truth will come back later if they are bad. Do I test all my dvd's? nope. That is the customers job.. I replace them anyways so I just sit back and wait. I only got 1 25 pack, going to get some verbs next shot, maybe order some TY next week also, this 25 pack will glide me through. But as you know, these cmc disks are getting bad press. I did'nt know they were cmc until now.

The rumors I've been hearing are that CMC is now starting to use MCC dye in their operations, and CMCMAGAE1 is the first one to receive it. I'm skeptical, but if burns on this code are going well for people, it may be believable. It's only these newer AE1 8x DVD-R media.

yep just finished off a 25 pack , perfect! I am going to get another tonight. I tested two of them.. perfect. Burned on my Plextor at 4x and on my Pioneer at 8x.
I hope you are right man.. I have never had a problem with memorex at all, I guess I have used over 800 of memorex, never checked the media code because I firmly believe a company like Memorex would not want their rep damaged by cheap junk.

@lordsmurf - where in the world do you find time to keep up with all of this? lol... dood your on top of this man. Thanks for that also!!

Maybe that explains why some people were getting MCC media when they bought the Teon DVD+R discs during Staples' Black Friday sale?

I was all set to return all that media because I got CMC but maybe it's "good enough" for the $3 after rebate price.

Oh, I know-- I literally have 2 huge storage boxes full of various Japanese Maxell and Fuji packages. I picked up the Teons for the purpose of having discs I don't care about for testing, quickie stuff for friends/family, etc.

Trust me, it almost hurts to actually commit data to any of the cheap ones!

(and just to clarify, I'm kind of stockpiling the "good" media for when it becomes difficult to find -- i.e., when you can't just walk into BB and pick up a spindle of Taiyo Yuden Fujis... kind of like the CDR situation has become)

  16. I just bought 2-50 packs of Memorex from Best Buy on their black Friday

Ritek G05's. They burn great in my Pioneer 108.

  18. i used memorex 90% of the time and have never had an issue that was not my fault. i've probably burned a few thousand between 2 hp drives and now two optorite drives. the media codes have been all over the board.

i recently picked up a couple hundred maxell's and i am a little nervous because i have never used them. but i could not pass up the price i got them for.

to make a long story short. in my experience if you have a process that works stick with it. only experiment if you are trying to become more effiecent or you really need to improve your process.

my process is stick with name brand media, dvd shrink, nero, plenty of hd space, at least a gig of ram, a constantly defragged hd and as clean an install as possible. (my burning/encoding compter is used solely for that. i surf and work on my other computers/laptop)
