  1. I have an Xvid file that virtualdub refuses to process, it gives the error:

“Error decompressing frame xxxx: an unknown error occurred (may be corrupt data) error code -100”

This message shows in all frames, and when I do an error check virtualdub reports all “I” frames as bad, and the rest as good but unreadable (obviously)

The file plays perfectly in WMP and I can even convert it using windows media encoder.

TmpgEnc does load the file but with a black screen, and when it attempts to process the file it gives the error: “Index of scan line is out of range”

I already tried direct stream copy with the option of masking bad frames, but since it mask all “I” frames the result is no file, and DivFix shows no errors present.

I have the latest version of virtualdub and the Xvid and Divx codecs

  2. I've never dealt with situation like this, so my advice is purely based on guessing.

If the file plays fine with WMP, it might be opened fine through DirectShowSource filter in AviSynth. If you can't open it in other ways, always try DirectShow filter. It worked for me in many occasions.

Once again, just my guess. It also might be the file is just corrupt.
