I have a DMR-E80H DVD Recorder that died recently. It is no longer in warantee and I would like to get it repaired. I live in the Dallas, Texas area. Does anyone know of a repair place here (or anywhere) which could repair the unit and perhaps put in a larger hard drive?

The unit starated hanging up often and the only thing it would let me do is reformat the hard drive (which lost all my recorded programs). I had to do this two times within a month. Then, it really died when it just went into record mode and stayed there. Even when there were no programs set to record, if it was plugged in, it was recording. When you manually stopped the recording, if you did not unplug the unit, it started recording again in less than a minute. Leaving powered down for a while and then plugging it back in didn't seem to solve the problem.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think it is repairable? If so, can this unit be fitted with a larger hard drive?

I wasn't planning to throw it away.... I would like to get it repaired and use it as a backup and when I have to be gone and want to set up to record a lot.

After my initial post, I found a post that said it is not possible to upgrade the hard drive, so I guess I will just try to get it repaired.

I don't want to discourage you, but if you have a DMR-E80H, you may be able to buy a new recorder with a bigger hard drive for the price it would cost to have yours repaired.

Try to get a quote and then shop around, prices of DVRs are probably less now than when you bought the DMR-E80H.

    Tearren,

You are probably right, but it might be worth checking on. Thanks for the thought.
