Hi, I just burned a dvd at 8x and wondering should it take 8:04? I burned at 6x and it took 10:04, burned at 12x it takes 7:10......is this right? The hard drive is defragmented. I'm using FujiFilm 8x (TYG02).

Sounds about right, Most of my 8x take around 8 minutes, 6X at 10 minutes and 4X at 13 minutes. I have only tried to burn a 16X once with 8X media and it took 6 minutes.

Yes, I have a Pioneer 108 and those times are about right. I get about 7 minutes at 12x, just over 8 minutes at 8x, around 10 minutes at 6x, and about 15 minutes at 4x. A double layer Verbatim at 4x takes about 25 minutes.

I've tried 16x a couple times on TY media but the burner never kicked up to 16x, so I just get a 12x burn. (I use the registry patch that makes Nero show the real-time speed, so I know when the speed changes occur. 11.8x is as high as it gets.) It's no big deal. It's only supposed to kick into 16x at the very end, and the delay switching from 12x to 16x makes the 16x burn actually take longer, or so I've read. I just wanted to see Nero show me that it was actually burning at 16x and it didn't.

I just bought some Verbatim 16x media just to test the 16x burning speed. Guess what? It only burns at 12x. 16x is not even an option. (I'm using stock 1.14 firmware.) The Verbatim 8x disks burn fine at 12x, so what's the point of paying 3x as much for "true" 16x medea that also burns at 12x? It seems they just took the same stuff, stamped 16x on it, and got suckers like me to pay 3x as much for it. It does have a different medea code so maybe it'll be fixed in the next firmware update so I can at least select 16x and then have it burn at 12x. Oh well.

Anyway, the 108 is a great burner and I am very happy with my 7 minute 12x burns. Really. I sure would like to see that 16x kick in though.

I have the same problem as Mawdryn on burning 16x. On Dvd Decrypter it says that (TYG02) can be burned to 4x,6x,8x,12x, and 16x. I put on 16x and it never burned. Only burned 12x. What's the catch? I can burn the 8x at 12x but not 16x? Something aint right about that. TY media can't be burned to 16x, then? I have a 80 wire 40 pin. It's set in Ultra DMA 4.

We're getting a bit off topic here, but I honestly don't remember where I found the patch. It was just a simple registry modification. I did a Google search for the patch after reading about it in one of these forums, and I found the instructions for changing the registry. I do remember it was for version 5.xx of Nero and I was using 6.xx, but it worked anyway. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I don't remember more - just that it was easy to do and it works. Maybe someone else has better info on where to find the patch.
