  1. i jsut bought an iLO DVDRHD04 from walmart and it works great for recording some old DV tapes and some vhs movies. my only problem is recording from the television. here is my setup. i do not have a cable box, i simply plug in the cable directly to the TV and get the free basic cabel stuff. now when i scan channels through the recorder, it only picks up one channel. channel 5.this channel is a lot grainyer then it is without the unit. as of right now the cable line is going into the ilo unit, and i have another cable line going from the unit to the TV. the unit is also connected to the TV via S-Video. now when i try and record it always records just channel 6, no matter what.i tried changing the channel and all i get is snow. how do i set it up to record any channel?i basically wanna flip through the channels, and if i see something i like, record it.do i need a cable box? also one last question thats a little off this topic, can i insert a homemade movie on dvd, then record it to the harddrive as its playing?
    thanks for your time.

I don't have that unit, I have the non harddrive, however, have you tried in the setup menu setting the input under TV tuner to say antenna instead of Cable? Or try to manually add the channels under utilities. Or the equivalent control for the harddrive unit.

Sounds more like maybe he needs to change it from Antenna to Cable. I just bought an iLo and I tried changing to Antenna- it only picked up a couple channels and the rest got nothing but static. I switched it back to Cable and it works fine again.
