DVD-R, ok, in store they had 4 Japan packs and 3 Taiwan packs. -BTW: the yellow on the Taiwan packs was a brighter shade of yellow.
Anyway, I bought the Japan ones- they are MXL RG02 4X.
So I also placed an order online, and I got all gold topped 8x Japan MXL RG03!! Also when ordering online there are $10 of $50, and $20 off $100 coupons around-- just google for the codes.
So the best deal is get 5 packs @ $19.99 and a pack of 18 cent staples, then use the $20 off 100 coupon and you have 250 discs for $80+tax.
If the ones you get aren't japan just return them... or wait a week or two to return them and the store may have the 8x Japan ones in stock by then.

thanks for the codes.(albeit some expired last month)
so for long term archival crap are Maxell or TY 2x or 4X or 8x the best?
I suppose it's only a hunch but i'll guess 4x...why? well... welll 2x was still a early formulation but 4x was around for awhile for them to get it right.
so with this deal and concerned only with data integrity over the years do you think the Maxell 02's or 03'3 are better... after ther this online deal I guess I gotta return some.
so? or or the TY's just better?
