Divx to Mpeg stream

Hi, after many MANY hours, i still cant do it!
Im trying to convert 700 meg divx files to an mpeg stream, which i can do ok... but when i split the mpeg stream, its STILL too big to fit on 2 vcd`s..

is there a way to compress the mpeg stream more than the standard in tmpmpeg?

plesae let me know, as im going bonkers.. many thanks..

remember that you fit 74 min video(=~740MB) on a 74 min cd and 80 min video(=~800MB) on a 80 min cd(=~800MB)
