Verbatim 50 packs, 8x -R or +R, $19.99, shipped free.
The Fuji TY's for $20 per 100 beats all deals, although Amazon just had the Ritek RICOHJPN R01 +Rs for $29.99 per 100, shipped free. -
Has anyone bought these? What media id are they?

I got (2) 50 spindles of MAXELL DVD-R, MADE IN JAPAN from OFFICE DEPOT.
media code is MXL RG02 which is just as good as TY.
I had to go through the shelf to find the MADE IN JAPAN spindles. Most of the spindles were MADE IN TAIWAN. -

Anyway, I bought the Japan ones- they are MXL RG02 4X.
So I also placed an order online, and I got all gold topped 8x Japan MXL RG03!! Also when ordering online there are $10 of $50, and $20 off $100 coupons around-- just google for the codes.
So the best deal is get 5 packs @ $19.99 and a pack of 18 cent staples, then use the $20 off 100 coupon and you have 250 discs for $80+tax.
If the ones you get aren't japan just return them... or wait a week or two to return them and the store may have the 8x Japan ones in stock by then.
FYI: the 8x do say "8x" on them.
ok, codes the one I used expires today, so hyurry or search for another:
$20 off $100 code: 73418862 exp. 11/30/2004
or $10 off $50 code: 23896353 exp. 12/31/2004 -
Damn. Wish I'd known there were two types. I thought I'd found a good deal with those O.D. 15-packs for 5 bucks, so I picked up several spindles. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th discs out of the first spindle either froze up when played (like some cheap-ass no-name) or wouldn't finalize when burned with Nero or Decrypter. Must have been the Taiwanese lot, I guess. Took them back.
