  1. I ran across this on the BB site. Buy one get one free. Thats a very good deal on this media. Im thinking Ricoh R02 maybe for the plus. I wonder about the minus.

I know the 15 pack spindles that were on sale a few weeks back at office depot were CMC for both DVD+R & DVD-R.

    The 25 pack spindles I know from COMPUSA are DVD+R PRODISC & DVD-R FUJIFILM03.
If anyone purchases these 50 packs let us know what the media codes are.

  3. Thanks for the heads up. I'm hoping that they would be Ricoh R02.

They look the same as the ones I bought a couple of weeks ago.
    I bought 100 +r 8x

They do not burn at high speed in either of my burners.
    Nec Nd 1300A +- 4x
    I/O Magic +- 8x
burns in either took 45 minustes (about 3g data)
Used nero6 and Record Now with same results
says burning at 8x but I know that is not the case given time
sorry not a techie so don't know media codes etc.

also had insert warning of data integerity if used in 4x burners not upgraded via firmware to 8x

If it took 45 minutes for 3 GB's of data, you have other issues other than the media. I would upgrade to the latest firmware for your drive and be sure your IDE channels are set to UDMA. That is burning at 1x and something else is wrong if that's the case.

I'm curious on the +R media codes too.

I was just at the store and noticed two different packs of the +R media...

    1) Taller pack with deep (1/8") indented ring on the top of pack, foam ring and spokes on bottom of cake pack.

    2) slightly shorter pack, no foam ring and no deep indentated ring on top, smooth bottom of the cake box.

I'd be curious on what anyone knows about either pack.

    EDIT: Fixed description

I just got 2x50 and they are Ritek R03 but they just look like regular cake boxes to me .I couldn't see 2 seperate types so maybe my store just has one type of +R.

Tom, can you check the bottom of the pack? The difference on the tops is a small lip on the outter edge of the smooth bottomed ones. The spoked one has a deeper ring about an inch and a half wide below that you can see the foam ring.

What did you get? I'll try to post pictures later tonight.

  16. These are usually Ritek R03s or Ricoh R02s and many times in the past they have been on sale from $30-$40.

Those are the RicohjpnR01 4x that burn at 8x that i received. They are great discs. I've bought about 400 of those and 3 times i got a 10 dollar rebate.

The Memorex 8x i got from Best Buy are Ritek R03 which i've never received
from Newegg in my 4 spindles.

Type that is lower profile, no styrofoam ring, smooth bottom

Type with a taller profile, styrofoam ring, spoked bottom

Here you go these are the two types I've found.

The bottom is kinda tough to tell from the photo, look for "spokes".

EDIT: Not sure what happened to the the thumbs, click through should work...
    EDIT2: Got thumbs back

Just made it back from the store I bought discs from yesterday.

There were LOTS of discs there yesterday, but today.... NONE.

Someone catch wind of this and gobble up the entire stock? I have no idea, but it looks like Milpitas, CA is OS.

OK, jeff d, i looked and mine don't have a spoked bottom, they are smooth with an inner ring. Sorry it took a while but when i checked back the pics weren't working. Mine are like the top photo.

Did you try to order them over the net and pick up at the store option ? Maybe they set some aside for Internet orders.

Thanks tom. good info, I'll be sure to check those out first. I just picked up in the store, nothing special about online order. There were like 50 packs yesterday and none today.

Can anyone else confirm media codes on the discs they got?

  22. I've been hearing allot about the media codes but I got a question: Is the deal worth it to buy (2 - 50 DVD +/- R's for $39.99)
    Quote Quote
  23. No. Not unless you love that particular code.

I picked up a 50 pack at CompUsa . Not a good read in my Plextor 708. Only one burn so far. A 4 gig clone of a drive. No problems restoring the information. I will not trust these discs for important info/burns.

    Memorex 8x -R

    Manufacturer ID: Prodisc F01
    Supported Speeds: 4.0X - 2.0W - 1.0X

The dye appears to have spun out beyond the edge of the Media ring. There are dye smudges inside the the inner ring also.

The Memorex logo inside the inner ring looks impressive but the disk itself looks quite tacky.
