  1. I would like to ask how you can backup a VCD. I tried using Toast 6's copy feature but when the program is backing up the files from the VCD, there an "-36 error" message and the process stops.

I also tried copying the entire VCD to my hard drive but I get an error message and the copying stops.

I also tried using VCD X to extract the .DAT file and convert it to a Quicktime file. It works but now the movie can only be played on my Mac using Quicktime, not on my DVD player.

Any advice on how to do this. Thanks.

If you have a quicktime file then you can author it as a VCD again. Problem there is that you're compressing the video again, but that may be your only hope.

Any idea what a -36 error message means?

you could try MissingMediaBurner or Firestarter FX to back-up (S)VCD discs

are you copying the vcd to your desktop with drag/drop? if so that wont work. You HAVE to make an image of the cd with toast. You can then reburn that image or if you are converting you can then rip the mpeg out and do as you want

    Galactica is right on point.
An -36 error is a I/O read error,
meaning toast couldn't read a segment of the disc.

Either do one of two things:
    1. try making a disc image of the disc using toast.

    2. Open the disc in Toast under the Copy tab,
bu choosing "Get Disc Info". find and Select
the Video Track , and click Save As.
You then can save the MPG-1 file back out of the disc,
and then use VCDBuilder 1.1 to re-author,
or just drag it back into Toast Video CD window.
