Is my Liteon Recorder broken?

I bought a Liteon 5001 DVD recorder on Saturday. Yesterday I noticed that the recording on the +RW disk ended abruptley at 50 minutes into recording (on 2 hour mode, pre formatted). This disk had previously been formatted on my PC. The RW disk I got when I bought the unit (and has only ever been used with the recorder) seems to work fine. Do you think that my DVD recorder is faulty, or could it be because this second disk was formatted on my PC (Even though I did re-format it in the DVD recorder)?

It sounds like you may have a bad disc. I would recommend downloading DVDInfoPro and doing a full erase/format of the disc.

I would recommend against getting the latest LiteOn firmware. If you upgrade to it you can't go back to older firmware versions.

I had a similar problem with my liteon. It would just stoprecording with the RW discs. This happend with the disc that came with it. However the discs that got with my cyberhome work great. I also could not get the Sony RW's to work. So my guess would be to get a good quality made in Japan disc. My Sony's were made in Taiwan.

Yep, try another media. Dvd machines of any kind are media picky. Accu media works with any dvd writer or player that I have used it on.

What blank media brand are you using or are you using the one that came with your unit. I never bothered to use the one that came with the unit and still use what I use with my PC DVD Recorders. I stick with Maxell brand for DVD+R and DVD+RW. Memorex give me band results well they seem to fail.

If you're having trouble with your unit upgrade the firmwares then select RESTORE TO DEFAULT clear out any junk codes that might have gotten corrupted somehow.

I use Memorex 2.4x DVD+RW (INFODISCA01 media ID) pretty much exclusively on my LiteOn 5001 unit. It's good media, the INFODISC ones. MCC +RW is fine, as are a couple others.

The disc that came with the unit was tossed in the trash. Bad stuff.

Sounds like you have a bad disc issue.
