I live in Japan, as most of you know...anyway, winter is here!! It's cold...I need heat, and the only thing keeping me warm now is the heater on the wall (No such thing as central heating). Anyway, most Japanese families have one of these 2
A Kotatsu, which is, easily described as a coffee table, with a blanket on it, then a board over that...and sandwiched between is a nice blanket. Under the table is a small heater. Anyway...here is a picture...
Then there is the hot carpet, which is exactly that...a carpet that you put down and you can turn on and off and it heats up. Both are nice...which would you get? I gotta get one cause my ass is freezing...I know this question is boring, but I told my mom about them, and she was pretty interested in it...so I thought "Hey...why not up my post count"

both sound like a house waiting to be burned down
the carpet sounds good to me though unless you plan on huddling around the table 24/7 -
No, I used to live in Japan, too. And the hot carpet was the way to go. Keep warm Beave!

Hot carpet? That anything like an electric blanket? If so I'd go with that.
Wow no central heat, I couldn't live there I guess. -
get a real heater - one of the oil filled ones work well and dont use much juice ...
or go with he carpet -- though weird"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
wait wait, cover all your WALLS with carpet, then get a little heater. Ahha! I've outsmarted the Japanese!

Maybe this is a picture of that heater table.........
I found this on that website.......... :P
(the average Japanese home has an insulation "R" value just below that of a wet paper bag)

No central heat over there? What is that? Some kind of population control or something? Come on, I thought those people were supposed to be pretty bright?? Do you live in the Amish section of Japan or something? :P

They are. Their central heating, if you have it installed comes from the floor (no vents), and man, it is nice!

Not only does it keep your house warm, but with the two heads all your children will be born with, you will never have to worry about having a dumb kid!
