went to fry's to see if i could pick up some of their "1 day sales", ya think they had anything good left...no. at least they have 50 registers open. i was like screw this, picked up half life 2 for $38 and im going home to play video games. it's just stupid how people flock. i think there were people at best buy at 4 am this morn waiting, according to the news a $10 sale isnt worth it to me. it was just crazy though, i think soccer moms piss me off more than people with trailer hitch's on their cars :P

btw, anybody seen any good deals on digi cams online today?

    Hello,

In my defense I've never camped out over night for Star Wars - though I did wait in line 5 hours for Episode 1 tickets

Hey a $200 computer is worth getting in line at 1am for!

I quit going to Fry's "special" sales. I caught the stores in the lower region (OK, NM, TX, LA, etc) not having sale items in stock.

I watched over the guy's shoulder, even as much as he tried to keep me from doing it. Most stores had ZERO items in stock, and had been that way for days (before the sale!!!).

I gave the info to a local reporter, but not sure it ever went any farther than that. I was pissed.

Wasted an hour that day for nothing!!!

And the typical lie: "You just missed it, a guy came in here not more than 10 minutes ago and got the last one.'

We went to Worst Buy in 1996 to buy a Sony rear projection set - a 53". They had a good price on it ..I think it was $2100.

We got there and were lurking in the showroom and a salesman came up. I told him we were interested in the Sony. Mind you it was a Sunday, and the first day of their weekly specials sale flyer.

He went in the back, came back and said they only had one unit, and it was sold already. I asked of they had gotten a bunch in and sold them all the same day as the sale beginning. He said they only had the one unit for a week prior to the sale Why have the sale if they can't sell it?

Good thing. Sony made three different grades of the 53" and that was the lowest one. We went to Ultimate Electronics. They had a 53" Sony listed on their scratch and dented list, and the salesman said it was put there by mistake, but they have to sell it as such. So we ended up getting the top of the three 53" grades for the same price as the lowest 8) Our model listed at $2950 and we got it for $2150 I laughed all the way home

Funny, I've never had a problem with Fry's being sold out of something as long as I went the morning of the sale, and Circuit City is the place I goto when all else fails because everyone down here seems to forget they exist.

    Kind of on this topic.

I hit a couple of places w/ my sister inlaw the day after turkey day. She is looking for a laptop. Nobody actually had them in stock, but they all said they could get them the next day. One of the office supply stores said that it was called a "Virtural Raincheck" or something like that because they didn't even keep them in stock normaly. Even Worst Buys said that just about anything that wasn't in stock could be there in a day.(If you can belive them) I am a cash and carry kind of guy myself, but if I really wanted it bad enough I would wait a day, (If they brought it to my front door!) otherwise I am going to the next place

I don't usually go out the day after for the sales (I get homocidal towards soccer moms and the like) But I got to say that the stores all seemed well staffed. The other thing that I thought was funny is that everone drives into the strip mall parking lots and right up to the front of the stores where you know that there aren't going to be any parking spots and the traffic and pedistrians are the worst and then they just get stuck in the gridlock. I shit you not, I pulled into the strip mall where there was a Best buy and two office supply stores and I parked out by the road. I got two kids out of the car, waited on the women folk to play in the mirrors, walked across the lot, shopped (just looking not buying) for about 45 minutes to an hour and when I came out of Best Buys (My last stop) the same bitch that cut me off as I was turning into the stripmall was right in front of Best buys still trying to get an up front parking spot. The funniest part is that my six year old son pointed towards her and said "Hey, look, thats the crazy lady that almost crashed us!" I laughed so hard that my wife was embarrased and my son started to act like he was driving his imaginary car all over and crashing into us. I feel sorry for the sales rep that had to deal with that bitch, I know that she was pissed and wasn't going to cool off for a week.

    Glock;
Nah, it was more like a comando raid. We just wanted to compare some of the screens to each other and check out the speakers(which all sucked as far as notebooks went, I swear that a year or so ago the notebooks that I was looking at had better speakers) We just slipped in and turned up the volume on every note book, took a step back, looked and listened. I think that we dashed the dreams of big time sales for a few salesmen in the process

Not defending retail places TOO much....it IS their fault for the most part though...but...the ads are printed SOO far in advance it isn't funny.
All the stores(especially Best Buy) see in preparation for that ad(3 months from now) are mock-ups with NO PRICES. So it could be just "advertised" or it really could be "reduced/advertised". I was an inventory manager for a large retail company(store level). Best Buy tried to recruit me but after seeing their lack of info provided beforehand and how their system tracked sales....I passed and stayed where I was.
They had NO damaged/returned inventory management (keeping those OUT of the ordering system)....BIG mistake and those idiots even counted their displays during inventory....adding one more non-sellable unit to the on-hand count.
Most places now buy or "store use" their display items and NOT count them at inventory time to keep their counts accurate so the computer ordering system can do it's job correctly.
Not sure if individual stores can override an order quantity....I didn't snoop that long...

Yeah. I mention them because they've never done wrong by me. The local CC is well-stocked, well-run, the people are friendly and cheerful, and their return policy is the best I've ever seen (30 days, no questions asked)

I've shopped and done remodels at a few CCs in my area. I am thinking that the sales people are kind of low key and older, and the stores seem to be quieter (maybe it was carpet). Checkout can be slow anywhere, and if you have to wait for them to bring it out of the "back" you better have a book and a chair. I've seen some of the stuff that goes on in the back and feel for the customer. The kid gets the paperwork from the little old lady and says that he will be right back. Then he goes to the back and starts to shoot the shit with his little freind for a few. Then he goes all the way to the garage to checkout the hot rod getting a sound system installed. Then he needs a drink of water, now he can't find the paperwork and starts to retrace his steps. The manager sees him looking lost and tells him to unload that trailer right now. After screwing around and being given a few other task he finds the paperwork and then has to go find someone to show him where the item is, then he has to find someone that can drive the forklift, then he has to dig a trail thru the warehouse to the spot where the item is. And of course us construction workers ain't helping matters any, we used up all of the propane in the forklift, our gang boxes are blocking the aisle, the concrete is cut out for something if you try to go one way and the new concrete ain't dry if you try to go the other way, and one of my lowlife men has stolen the knob off whatever it is because the one at his house is broken! So I offer the little old lady a cup of bad coffee and my paperback and tell her to get comfy, this may take a while.
