    Hello,

The YODA313 PPM (posts per minute)!

    Sounds cool

Though I'd have to upgrade to a Cable modem to really juice the stats

    Stick with dialup then

btw- I've had no slowdows/fluctuations with cable. That is SBC propoganda.

  14. Enjoy it - I remember when I first had ADSL, freaking amazing - always on, fantastic speed and all the pr0n your HDD can handle. Time to nip out and get a nice new 160gb HDD

Unless "adsl" is faster than "dsl" (which it may be?!?!?!), I seriously doubt that it is faster than my connection speeds, and a lot of others with cable connections...
Running BWMeter, it shows me cruising along ~350 - ~375 KBps (on a good day)..... which I am quite happy with..

    Another thing I noticed...
On the SBC website if you go through and check up on the packages they offer nowhere do they tout their speed... they list ~speeds/pricing but....

Now when I say "Roadrunner" we all pretty much know what that means...
    Meep, Meep....

JMO and YMMV and for ~$20/mo I would imagine it would be a welcome improvement over dial up...

"ADSL" just means asymmetric - faster d/l than upload. "SDSL" or symmetrical DSL is the same both directions ...and it doesn't necessarily mean you have to reduce the d/l speed to get faster uploads, though many companies structure it that way.

I have cable myself at home. I love it

    (T1 at work ...)

ADSL is asymmetrical dsl where the download rate is faster than the upload rate.

I have a more steady connection which is a dedicated connection and is cheaper.

I have verizon dsl. I have 768 down/128 up. You hardly ever get those speeds though because of overhead.

I know what "RoadRunner" is. It is offered by Time Warner Cable. I once had cable internet through AT&T@Home, AT&T Broadband and Comcast and I am happier with dsl.

In two years I went from 40Gb to a terabyte - all because of broadband. Not because of any major downlaoding, but the conversion of AVIs to VCD/SVCD/DVD started me on the video capturing, editing and authoring route.

Its obvious Kevin you dont have much else to do but be an online forum junkie to get DSL :P

I also have DSL through SBC, and it has worked quite well for me. Almost didnt get it though because my first DSL service when I lived in Cleveland was a complete nightmare....couldnt even stay on 24 hours Was so disgusted I ditched it and gotten cable at that time, and bought my own modem. Worked flawlessley from that point on.

But since moving here to West Michigan, I gave DSL another shot, and have to say it has worked much better. I think it was because I had really old phone lines in the place I used to live at in OH, plus not sure how far I was from the CO.

My 1 year term expired since August so I can cancel anytime now (which I will have to at the end of this month since I will be moving out of this place I am at). I'd gotten an offer to upgrade to a faster speed for another year's term, but turned it down. Don't want to be tied down to anymore contracts and terms.

But I can say though, once you have broadband, you never will ever go back to dialup, unless you travel of course.

I have the staff of power, now it's up to me to use it to its full potential to command my life and be successful.

  24. The best thing about DSL from my experience, pings are much better. Cable has a tendancy to drop a lot more packets than DSL.

Also with DSL, you don't have anyone on your same line back to the CO, so your speed will be the same all the time. Where as cable has a tendancy to so down during peak times.

If my cable company jacks with the prices one more time (they are the only cable company to raise prices) I will go back to DSL. The good thing is my copper is clean all the way to the CO (no bridge taps) so I know I can get the best speed I want to pay for.

We've never experienced much of a slowdown with cable. Maybe it's because not too many on our circuit leg have it yet. But they finally made DSL available for us ...after cable has been here for years

I'm sure DSL has its tradeoffs too. But both are similar speed-wise, and both blow dialup into the weeds
