Situation: We had my work's christmas function on the weekend. Everyone got merry, and quite a few photos were taken. The photos were put up for display on our intranet yesterday, so I looked through them. Being an avid photochopper, I saw one that I could doctor. So I did. I sent it to a few people at work, including the parties involved.

Here is the photo I sent:



The bloke on the right decided to notify my boss (who I sent the photo to anyway), and wants my email privileges revoked because of "abuse".

I have to admit, I have doctored a few photos in my day. I always ask the people in the photo if it's okay to post them. Never had anyone refuse. One lady even posted her doctored picture herself.

Jim, although this guy is a jerk I can kinda see where he is possibly "thinking from" .... it's a known fact that Bert and Ernie are considered one of the first "domestic partnerships" (gotta be goin' on 35+ years now ... shared the same bedroom... etc, etc) ... So the picture you sent out is in fact calling both associates from your company queer. The pic of Bert and Ernie is the gayest one I've seen too ... so although I personally would have only sent you a '**** you' email had you done that to me (with a big smiley of course and waiting for the time to really **** you over) this prick in your office decided to be a real puke and go to mgmt.

I would send a formal apology to dude in question and boss. Really... I have seen lesser emails cause people to get fired. I would hate to see this escalate. (if you work at a big company it's amazing how much of this shit goes on) .. OR... is my thinking above way outta whack.

It's a small company (about 100 employees) with just the 3 of us in IT - myself, another bloke that's the same level as me, and our boss. Those two are in one location (as are the two in the photo) and I'm at another. So I haven't had any face-to-face contact with anyone as yet. The beauty of the situation is that the bloke in question is one of those blokes who'll never concede a tit for tat - he just keeps going until things get out of hand.

Just tonight I sent the chop cap did to his home email address from my home email address. I told him that it was just a bit of fun, and I challenged him to top that chop with a doctored image of me. He took it in good humour and replied that he couldn't do shit because he'd be sending around far worse things than that via email!

Among the fundamentalist crowd Bert and Ernie represent "covert" endorsement of gay relationships. Personally, I find their attribution of sexual characteristics to puppets (e.g. the Teletubbies) to be prurient and raises more questions about people who think this way than the outrage du jour they're so upset about. I'm afraid that this sort of thing is going to get a lot worse, at least in the near future, until the majority of people who see it for what it is step up and put them back in their places.

I'm not sure if this is what's happening in the situation here, but it's something to consider.....
