    Greetings.

If I were to make a brand new PC from scratch to be used solely to
capture video and convert to DVD as a hobby, what are your suggestions
    and recommendations regarding the following:

    Mobo
    CPU
    RAM
    OS
    Video Card
Video Capture Devices(Digital and Analog - internal and external)
    DVD Recorder
    Software (Editing, Codecs, etc.)
    Cables
    Anything else I might forget?

    Thank you.

    Ummmm.

It will depend on the stuff that should be a must. Nothing way too fancy. Just to start learning.

    $5,000.00 more or less.

Is the Canopus ADVC-100 any good?

Should I get an MPEG2 capture card?

I would like to start editing and converting VHS and 8mm reels to DVD.

    Thank you

What would be a good projector and converter for 8mm reels?

    Thanks.

If you are talking about a small number of reels, you would be better off getting a service to do it for you.
