I have my DishNet Satellite Receiver set up and my Panasonic DMR-E85H set up. The problem I’m having now is to get the Sat Receiver set up to recognize the DVD Recorder when set for timer recording. It has set ups for just about all types of VCR’s and Turner/Receivers plus a number of DVD Players. What I want to do is have the Sat receiver change channels for recording different shows over night. The only way I can do recording now is to set the channel I want to record. Set up the DMR-E85H for timer recording and record, but to only the channel I selected on the receiver. Do you have any suggestions on how I can set this thing up? Suggestions and Recommendation please.

The typical way to do it is to connect the Sat. Receiver output to the DVD recorder line inputs.
Set the sat. receiver to the time and channel. Set the DVD recorder for line in, and put in the time.
I don't know why you would need to make the sat. receiver "aware" of the dvd recorder unless it's to turn it on when the sat. receier comes on.
When we had a VCR, the sat. receiver had a "VCR mouse" that was wired to the sat. receiver and it sent the proper infrared signal to the VCR to turn it on when the sat. receiver timer started.
So farwe haven't been able to get our Sony DirecTV sat. receiver to output the proper IR to our Panasonic dvd recorder. So we set both timers manually. It's a bit of a pain, but not a big deal.
maybe it's because our sat. receiver predates all standalone dvd recorders. Perhaps the newer ones output the IR signal for dvd recorders? -

Thank you for your resone. I will give your suggestion a try and post results. I just want to be able to set up the timer recording functions on the Sat receiver, then I can set up the timer functions on the DMR to match, so the channels will change at the time programmed. Thanks again

The problem I seem to be having is that I can not set the Sat Receiver in the timer mode until it "Sees" the VCD/DVD. The manual for the Sat shows a number of three digit codes that are used for various VCR's/DVD/TV system, it does not show anything for DVD Recorders. I may just contact the Panasonic folks to see if they have a fix for the type of Sat Receiver I have. In the mean time I just set the channel I want on the Sat Receiver, set up the DMR for timed recording, turn it off. It will record that way without any problems. Thanks for your assistance.

"The manual for the Sat shows a number of three digit codes that are used for various VCR's/DVD/TV system, it does not show anything for DVD Recorders. "
Try the codes for panasonic dvd players & or panasonic vhs players. You can also get another remote, like a learner remote. On ebay a NEW SONY RM-AV3100 Integrated Remote Commander might do the trick for you.
There are some topics on dvd recorders & satellite boxes if you want to search for ideas. -

Thansk for your response. I have teh Echostart 301 that was provided by the DishNet guys. What happens is this unit will not allow for timmer recording until you set it for your device, in the back of the book they have a number of codes for VCR's/DVD Players/TV etc. Nothing for the DMR type. It will ask for a three digit code in the setup window, once that is complete you can set up timer recording. I know once I set the Sat receiver up I will hae to set the E85H to matche the times on the Sat receiver, that is not a problem. I just can't find the right three digit code for the Panasonic DMR-E85. Thanks again, hope someone else has this type of set up and can assist.

Actually, you have an Echostar 301, not Echostart.
You can find some stuff at http://www.google.com/
Type in: echostar 300 panasonic codes.

"I am getting dish soon: A DishTV w/301 reciever.. my question is this:
I know these units have a "IR Blast emitter" to turn on VCR's but will it
work with my Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD/HDD recorder? If not.. I have to cancel
my order ASAP!"
answer
"It might work the other way around: the recorder controls the Dish box.
If Panasonic was smart, they used the same button codes as for their
VCRs. The only codes Dish boxes broadcast are the Record and Stop
codes. If all else fails, you have the option of creating an "Autotune"
timer on the 301. It will tune to the appropriate channel at the
programmed time for the programmed duration. You have to set a
synchronized timer on the recorder as well to record the line in,
but it will work." -

Just had one of my senior moments when I typed that out.....I just got off the phone with the DishNet Tech guy, he said the only way was for me to key in all the Panasonic codes listed in the user manual for the receiver, under VCR codes, there are about 10 or so in the back of the book. He also said I might try to see if the Sat receiver remote will turn on the DMR device. Will try all this later today. The other thing he said was they are working on updateing the code listing, and will be adding the DMR type codes, just not sure when all that will happen. Will let all know the results of my remote test later. Thanks again.
