Well it's the start of hunting season in Michigan for firearms. Less traffic on the roads in the morning

I'm not a hunter myself but I don't have a view on it positive or negative - if they want to hunt let them

There used to be more around, when they worked in local stores, but most of them have been fired and have since taken a powder.

"Take a powder" is an old saying meaning leave quickly. Powder, as in gunpowder

The chamber is the rear-most portion of the barrel that is shaped to accommodate the cartridge. When one is "chambered", that means it's ready to fire.
