    A good buy for Canadians

Compusmart, a smaller chain, is offering Imation 4X +R or -R media - a spindle of 50 for $39.99 Cdn.

I can't speak for the -R, but the +R have the RICOHJPN media code and they are working just great on my ultra-picky Lite-On drive. I haven't posted a review yet, because I've only been through a few. I bought this media branded TDK at $1.50 Cdn. each a few months ago.

However, you can't always get both types at all locations. I went to Toronto Eaton Centre to get +R (my drive doesn't much like -R) and they only had -R left. However, they had a location nearby that was stocked with +R.

According to their flyer, the sale is on until November 17. I don't know if the deal is available on the web, but their web site is compusmart.com.

This is an average buy at best.I've heard about several problems with those Imation -Rs. Your better off to buy Prodisc from blankmedia. They are better discs and even cheaper.

As I said, I can't speak to the -Rs.

However, the reason I posted this was that the +R is a good buy for this particular manufacturer. My drive is all too picky and I've even had trouble with Prodisc 03s. The Imation +R may not work well for everyone, but at 80 cents each, it's a boon for drives that like it. The only other Richohjpn discs I could find were TDK at $1.50 each in a pack of 15. Sure, there is probably better, cheaper media out there, but with the bad experiences I've had lately, I was very glad to find these.

I've burned about 8 with no coasters. With one, the software failed to terminate it properly and it still worked! I can't ask for more than that.
