    use bitrate viewer or use https://www.videohelp.com/calc and fudge around

    i believe that only shows what the header is reported to be , not the acual avg bit rate (i could be wrong)

  5. yeah in powerdvd it only shows current bit rate not the avg.
    but I'm little confused about how interpret the result in bitrate viewer
    do I need to wait until it scans through the entire VOB first?
    cuz the avg bitrate keeps changing

    Yes it has to scan through your entire file, which can be problematic when dealing with separate vobs. Its best to rip the DVD to a single mpeg video stream. Go get a cup of coffee or something because it will take quite a while to load the whole thing.
