I need a cooling fan for this CPU:
AMD Athlon XP ThoroughBred 2600PR Socket A CPU
http://www.directron.com/xp133b.html
I want one with ball bearings, 3 pin connection, realtively quiet, and no speed control (I consider it a waste of a PCI slot). I'm not an overclocker or anything so something basic should be sufficient. Emphasis on basic, as other CPU cooling recommendations are usually more expensive then me buying the Retail CPU instead.

If you can find one get a Thermalright SK-7 heatsink and put a Vantec Stealth 80mm fan on top of it. Thermalright doesn't make them anymore, in fact the cheapest heatsink I could find of theirs is $35. My recommendation would be for their heatsinks or Swiftech heatsinks if you want to spend the money. Swiftys and the current line of Thermalrights are overclocker heatsinks though. I have SK-7s on my 1900 MP machine and they work wonderfully. You can get away with the Stealth fans, which are lower speed fans, since the heatsink works so well when not overclocking. You may be able to find them surplus somewhere, or an eBay seller may be upgrading to something newer and getting rid of theirs..

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of this one:

Which I can get here

For $8 + $7 shipping. -
Copper slug with aluminum cooling fins is pretty much all you need. As long as that fan stays quiet. If it doesn't look at swapping it out with a Vantec Stealth.

this is what im usin
http://www.aerocool.us/cooler/extreme.htm
than fan runs at 2600 rpm so its not all that noisy. its rated at 30 dba which is pretty good. keeps temps down too -
I ended up getting this one:
http://www.tr2tt.com/products/coolers/m3.htm
Max. Air Flow 32.4 CFM
Noise 21 dBA
Bearing Type Ball bearing
Connector 3 Pin
It was $10, shipped.
Anyway, I don't need any other heat sinks or cooling fans besides the CPU, PS, and case, correct?
I've seen chipset coolers, but am unsure if I need one (not overclocking or doing anything fancy). -
Dont.
Fans are noisy!
Buy more powerfull CPU than you actually need and use it at 10% so it won't get hot -
Depends on the chipset. I know my 875 gets right toasty when I'm doing a lot of things at once, enough to warrant active cooling. There are some others that having passive heatsinks help, but usually OEM is okay.
