By default XP is pretty well setup for broadband, but there are several registry tweaks that you can use which might speed things a bit, and depending on your setup it can sometimes make a major difference. Check out the patches on speedguide.net

Yeah, XP on broadband basicly uses network settings. Not much reason to tweak it out. You might sqeeze something out with some sort of program or another but it likely would not be worth the hassle.

In the past I have tried tweaking the connection all over the place. At the best, never saw any improvement. At the worst, I screwed it up so bad I had to reinstall the OS to correct the problems I caused.

If you have a cable modem, here is the drill I go through to fix my connection when the cable company decides to 'upgrade' without notice:

Unplug the power from the cable modem. (and the router you should be using) Wait about 30 seconds, then plug the cable modem back in. Wait until it acquires the signal and stabilizes.

Plug in your router. You can also click 'repair' on your network connection at the same time. This method will reset everything with no loss of network settings.

This is also what my cable company suggests. I have to do it about once a month when my connection really slows. Works every time for me.
