  1. First I bought some Vanguard discs on Ebay after searching thru VH.com and some other sites. All the sites gave these discs pretty good results. but since I was a noob I didn't relize that burner reliablility and movie playback were so much different to make the disc work right. got the Vanguard disc's burnt Alien got really excited went upstairs to play it and before I knew it it was freezing/pausing. so I thought well it must be the speed I burnt it at. tried at 2X same thing.

So before I knew it I had a stack of 50 Ridata discs in front of me. after everything I seen on this website for movie playback these discs seemed like the best for the price. WRONG maybe the best for frisbees but thats it. I backed up about 5 movies 1 out of 5 played thru the end with no problems. by now I am pissed. I started to think it was my burner which btw is an Optorite 1205.

So before I knew it I had a stack of 50 Tayio Yuden discs in from of me. after talking with numerous peeps they all said these would work. well they were right. I burned two movies so far. JFK Directors cut and Angels in America (Stupid movie btw) both of the movies played thru to the end. both movies are very long also 2.5 hours +

Now I know there have been peeps with good results from Ritek. and it may just mean that my burner is not as good to burn crap media. So I say to you if they work go for it. but if there is someone out there trying to decide between the two go for the Taiyo Yudens.. they are really good discs..

Ritek is indeed not as good as TYs, but they are hardly crap media. Likely its either your burner, your player or a combination of both thats giving you problems with them. Perhaps a bad batch even. Overall the media is fine.

As far as TYs, I always asumed that given the choice between the two TYs should be obvious. Beware I've seen minor problems with even TYs on some players. No blank DVD is truely perfect.
