    can't figure it

    media player suddenly won'y play any sound

    tries to dl a codec when playing mp3 files or video with mp3 sound(svcd) or .avi's

    sound card works. it will play windows sounds

    it's as if the mp3 codec vanished from my computer and it can't dl a new one

    please help

    i'm out of ideas

    "Suddenly"? Have you installed any codec pack between "Works fine" and "doesn't work"?
    Have you tried anything besides Windows Media Player to play back the offending files?

    installed no codecs between working and not

    installed bsplayer - that's when it started - uninstalled it - no luck

    files won't play in either

    no sound with any file type - .avi, svcd, .mp3

    scanned for virus' - computer is clean

    p.s. i thought svcd used mp3 sound - guess not
