Just curious if anyone knows the answer to this. Yes I am aware uploading mp3's or movies is illegal (at least at this point I believe they aren't going after downloaders) but what about music videos like you see on MTV or VH1? Is this considered an illegal act as well?

Yes. Both the songs and the videos are copyrighted and neither you nor the person uploading has the permission or right to distribute them.
You have the right to record a broadcast and watch it one time at a later date, but under no circumstances do you have a right to distribute that copy to anyone over the internet. That would require express permission of the copyright holder, AKA a license.
The RIAA doesn't seem to be cracking down on this is as much, mostly just because its not nearly as prevelant as the trading of plain music files. -
is there a place to buy music videos ?

Downloading mp3's is only illegal as long as the copyright holder does not offer permission.
There are lots of artists that let you download their songs.
So it depends.
To say a blanket statement like downloading mp3's is illegal is not only wrong but more of the lies the industry is spewing forth., -

Dear Mr Bazooka,
With reference to the recent complaint submitted by yourself in regard to the recent claims made by ourselves in relation to certain digit involved activities.
Having studied the evidence provided to us by the OT legal department we find in your favour that no actual nose picking or arse scratching took place in said forum on said date.
However we would ask that you refrain from playing with your balls whilst reading this letter.
Yours
Mr Hugh Jass.
