How does the RIAA determine which music has been downloaded by P2P as opposed to music that been acquired in other ways(such as ripping CD's)? Thanks in advance.![]()

By monitoring your P2P usage through a number of companies that join downloads of copyright protected material and logging the IP addresses of those who upload or download those items. They can also subpoena your ISP logs to confirm that you were on-line at that address at the time.

I'm not sure I understand the question? if you're caught sharing MP3 files it is irrelevant whether they were acquired by p2p or legitimately. As far as I know the RIAA has never prosecuted anyone solely for having MP3 files on their hard drive or MP3 player?

I still imagine if someone has already told the copyright buyers
they'd better find new/better/other ways to make money.
