  1. Ok, here's the situation...

I had my DVD drive (Sony DW-U10A) in my computer and transferred it to another computer when I got my new DVD drive. Well, everything is working fine for my computer, but the computer with the other dvd drive (Sony DW-U10A) is having some problems.

It is kooked up correctly and was installed by XP, but it cannot read backed up dvd's. I put my original DVD in the drive and it worked fine, but when I put in the backup of that dvd in the drive, it couldn't read it. Now what is strange is that, before when it was in my other computer, it had no problem reading backups. Also, the backup DVD will play fine in my new DVD drive and my DVD Player for my TV. So why is it causing problems now? Thanks in advance.

  2. If what you say is true, all I can suggest is either the media
you used has gone slightly bad over time (this does happen) and
it is just a co-incidence it is not working after the swap - or
something in the drivers is wrong.

Have you tried removing the dvdrom in control panel/system/device
    manager and rebooting?

Have you tried updating the aspi drivers (forceaspi - see tools left hand side)

Other things to check: dust on lens, firmware update?

  3. The media is like a month old, so I don't think it that reason and it plays in other drives.

"Have you tried removing the dvdrom in control panel/system/device
manager and rebooting? " Yes I did that, but I had no luck.

I will try your other suggestion and get back to you. Thanks

  4. How do you get the forceaspi thing to work? I couldn't figure it out. Thanks

  5. - Extract all files to any directory. i.e. C:\TEMP

    - Select Start/ Run/ and type command
in the dialog box & click OK

    - Go to the directory i.e. type CD \TEMP [hit return]

    Type KILLASPI [hit return]

    then type INSTASPI [hit return]

  6. Ok, got that done.
Still a no go. I don't get it. It acts as if this drive is totally foreign all of a sudden. I can play my original DVDs but not back ups. In fact, it won't write correctly anymore either. Even data.
The CPU it is in now has SP2. Surely not and issue as originals play fine. Help?
