  1. I am trying to use Roxio to burn some files that I converted w/ TMPGEnc to a DVD. My files total out to be 4.1 GB before I imoprt them. When I import them and save a disk image(my burner doesn't like Roxio so I use dvd decrypter to burn images) it is over 6 GB so it won't fit. While it is saving the image it says that it is encoding the files. Is encoding in this case mean that it is reconverting or just putting them into .vob form? Is there a way to stop it from encoding the files if they are compliant?

I have had this problem before.

The answer is yes, I believe it DOES re-encode the files.

I don't personally think that Roxio's authoring is all that great, simply because it blindly re-encodes whether you want it to or not. I suggest using DVDAuthorGUI and then burn the resulting ISO image with Roxio (I'm assuming that you have Version 7). That bypasses the re-encoding and you have still retained the quality of your TMPGEnc Plus conversion.

  3. I'll try that, Thanks.

I was going to try to add a menu, but if I can't get it then that is ok.

Actually, you CAN add a menu with DVDAuthorGUI. The great thing about DVDAuthorGUI is that it IS flexible that way. You can even create some motion menus, if you want. I believe there are some guides along those lines...

DVDAuthorGUI also allows you to setup navigation, too, so a menu item can point to a title and even a specific chapter point that you can specify.

    The best part--it's FREE!

As I've said, I use Roxio for editing, because it's simple, cheap, and version 7 utilizes timeline editing. But I NEVER use it for authoring.

You can also use ffmpeggui to encode your audio stream into a Dolby Digital 2.0 file. DVDAuthorGUI will take both elementary video and audio streams and multiplex them for you.

Some programs are like that in that they will "reencode" your video even though its in the correct format to begin with. My recommendation would be to use a program like GUI for DVD Author to make your menus ect. Then import the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders into a data dvd with Roxio and burn.

  9. DVDAuthorGUI is doing something strange. When ever I create the folder for the DVD the Video_ts and Audio_ts folders are empty. The .iso is empty as well. Everything appears to go ok becuase it multiplexes all the vids. Any suggestions?

Wait a sec. Are you using GUI for DVD Author (what I recommended) or are you using DVD Author GUI- they are 2 seperate programs. As far as the empty folder do you have the correct output path set (are you looking where your current output is set)? Also, if you are using GUI for DVD Author go to Create Batch. This should export a bunch of files to your folder. Then simply run mainbatch.bat and it will create your vob and ifo files.

I guess Garibaldi is a somewhat common Italian name. My use of the name Garibaldi however refers to the character Michael Garibaldi on the scifi tv show Babylon 5. My reason being that I like the character and actor.

what does the log say after the authoring process begins? More than likely, there will be an ERR message.

Don't feel too bad, though. I still use Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 to do some editing. I think the timeline editing and other features are still worth it -- I just don't use it to author only because their encoder sucks and they insist on using CBR bitrates.

But for an editor, it's simple to use and doesn't require much of a learning curve.

Hmm, you mention that all of your files total up around 4 gig, but it appears that dvdauthor is only working with a 6 meg file. How long does it take to multiplex the files? It sounds like there might be something wrong with the m2v header. You may want to try someshing like restream to see if there are any problems with the m2v.
