  1. I am thinking of buying a cheap ILO stand-alone DVD burner which burns in DVD+R format. I was wondering if my Cendyne computer DVD burner will be able to read this disk in order to be able to make copies of it using Clone DVD?

Hence again, the basic question, can a DVD-R burner read a DVD+R disc?

    Thanks!

  2. Yes, it almost certainly will have no troubles READING DVD+R discs. For that matter I don't even know of any DVD-ROM drives that can't read DVD+R as well, although I'm sure some of the older ROM drives could be an issue. But I'd be very suprised to hear of any of the newer, 8x and up, DVD-ROM drives that would be unable to read DVD+R media. I'm sure someone will prove me wrong, though...

  3. I have the A05 and accidently read a +R disc and it caused a number of errors trying to read it, such that that I had to shut the computer down and reboot.

I am a -R guy and this was the first time I EVER had put a +R in the drive. There may have been a million reasons why it caused the problem (meaning it may have not been because it was a +R). When I put it in my dvd rom (LD something or other) and did a dvdinfo on it, it showed as a +R and that drive was able to read it.

For those folks that are wondering how I could have accidently put a +R disc in my computer, I had rented some movies and one of them wouldnt play in my standalone. I flipped it over and was surprised to see that it was a burned DVD. Apparently someone had rented it, ripped it and either accidently or on purpose replaced the original with it.

The A04 and A05 from Cendyne reads + disks just fine. If you go to the DVD Writers link on the left, it is listed with all its compatibiliy. My neighbor has a + writer and we swap disks all the time for critiquing each others work (legal movies - my home videos and her high school videos).

I'm not sure why macleod had trouble with one, but you can't make a compatibiliy judgement based on one disk that was obviously a pirated video that was probably burned by some idiot.

  5. Its good to hear that it wasn't a +R issue. For my clients and friends, I am always talking about -R being better than +R (and following up with that it is my personal experience and they can decide from themselves). I dont know of anyone that has a +R burner (well, some have -/+, but they only burn -R's) so it is good to hear that it "could" read a +R if it had to.

I'll bet that the folks at the movie store (I reported it) just slipped it back in and pretended that it didnt happen.
