  1. I've been encoding my Star Trek TV shows (recorded of a TV) using CBR 2000 kb/sec to complete fill an 80 min CD-R

In Tmpeg, if I use 2 pass VBR instead of CBR, what settings should I set for min bitrate, max bitrate, and avg bitrate?

I've been reading some of the threads on this and I'm not sure what I should set for the min/max birate. I know the avg bitrate should set to 2000 kb/sec. Some people have
suggested setting a really low min bitrate whereas other people suggest a min/max bitrate -/+ 500 kb/s from the avg bitrate

I want the settings so that I can fit the mpg file onto the 80 min CD-R.

I'm also assuming I can use 2 pass VBR for XVCD MPEG-1

Also, if I set for 2000 kb/s bitrate, are the filesizes the same using both methods?

Is there that much of a difference in the quality between both methods?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hmmm...
With 80min CDs for one ~45 min show, better try SVCD! With 2 Pass VBR (max:2666, av: 2100 and min 1200) you feet a whole episode in broadcast quality (no blocks if you know tips with tmpeg)
For XVCD, use sefy's template (sevcd) and feet 2 episodes per 80min CD. If you can use SxVCD, use it, is much better (but less compatible with players).
XVCD with 480 X 480 (576 for pal) and bitrate about CBR 2600 for me ain't good as SVCD...

For a newbie, would you mind saying what the TMPEG tips you're refering to are or SVCD or even for broadcast quality VCD if that's possible (or where I can find them) so I can create better quality encodes instead of the just decent ones I have now?

    Thanks a lot!
