I am trying to backup Van Helsing and there is a ton of extra content on the DVD. All I want is the movie and I will split it into scenes or use the already split scenes if possible. I have read on here that any compression less than 80% creates pixelation in black areas and I have been getting that lately with some movies...
my question is, how do I strip out the unwanted trailers, extras and misc crap and then reauthor? Any suggestions on progs to use and/or steps to take? Guides available?
PS - I usually use DVD Decryptor to rip my video...

So many questions...I'm sorry! -
Most likely what you have is a wide screen and full screen version. Pick one and run it in thd preview window, the first is probably the wide screen version. The chapters will be in either version as recorded, you won't be adding any. Nyah Levi

so if I add only one title and reauthor, my chapters will automatically be in there and I won't need to recreate them?

Wait I dont understand ...if all you want is the movie ( in otherwords remove the extras) and you use dvd decrypt...then use Nero 6 ...and eliminate the extras

Van Helsing is an extra large DVD. I want just the movie and I want to split the movie into chapters and thats it....
-
like I said you already use dvd decrypt...and then load your output in to nero 6
and in the edit delete the extra folders ...and you will have a pretty movie only ( including chapters ) -
Follow the first section and then the Re-Author section of this guide. All chapter points are retained as is, and you select which audio streams you wish to keep along the way. No menus whatsoever though - put the disc in and the movie plays immediately.
If in doubt, Google it. -
well I already loaded the audio and video folders for the movie created by DVD shrink into TMPGenc DVD Author and created a simple menu with the already cut chapters included, however, when I went to create my output it said combine bitrate is to much and above that of a standard DVD...any suggestions on what to do next? Will my movie play?
If I can't get this working I will go back and try some of your suggestions...but seeing as how I already started this way, hopefully my time was fruitful...
