I noticed there was a new movie coming out called "White Noise". It has something to with EVP (Electromagnetic Voice Phenomenon... something like that). I just wondered what everyone's opinions on things like ESP, EVP, Telekinesis, Telepathy... were.

EDIT: Add any personal experiences if you have had any.

    Hello,

Some of it no doubt exists. To what extent???? Who knows...

But there's too much strange stuff out there to say it's all baloney.

ESP? Well I'm telepathic, so no doubt about that. :P

EVP? Well now there's an INTERESTING phenomena. Look, I'm actually a HARDCORE RATIONALIST, I don't believe in ANY bullshit out there!!! BUT... I have heard that NASA were investigating this phenomena.

    So who knows.

    Haven't tried it, myself.

    I think it's total BS.

And can be explained by a mere coincidense.

    Hello,

So you don't believe in any strange occurances????? It's ALL fake????? That I can't believe. I know some of it has basis in reality... Not all of it, just enough to not discount the whole paranormal realm.

I'm willing to see evidence, but I haven't seen any that has convinced me on paranormal subjects.

most evidence I have seen is pattern-seeking behavior and false positives on the part of the person advocating, usually amplified by positve reenforcement from people who don't know how to evaluate what they are seeing.

check out the books "Why People Believe Weird Things" by Michael Shermer, and "Flim Flam" by James Randi.

I had a chance to hear James Edwards the morning after going over the "cold reading" information in "Flim Flam". It was on a radio call-in show, and unlike his tv show, he was unable to edit the live broadcast in his favor. I started counting his questions and how many he got right. I stopped counting after his first guest - he threw 30 "impressions" at her ("I'm seeing a name that starts with 'M'...") and had 2 hits. everyone was amazed at the 2 hits, ignoring completely the 28 misses...

if you want to believe, you'll find reasons to ignore facts that don't fit.

Of course it's real. There used to be a show about this. The government even has a group of special agents that do nothing but investigate this stuff. And one of 'em is a spunky little redhead cutie, too!

I read a bit about this in "The Mothman Prophecies".

It seems that that book is somewhat of a holy grail when it comes to this sort of thing. Unfortunately, for the true believers, the author tries to persuade the reader that UFOs and other strange phenomena all figments of our overactive imaginations.

Sometimes, I would have to agree.

Check out some of the EVP websites that have actual .wav files for download. I'm sorry, I don't hear what I'm supposed to.

I too am willing to see evidence and to approach it with an open mind...but I still don't think it's real but hang on a minute.....let me consult the wegie board....yep, wegie says it's all 100% bullshit and mine is guided by Alexander The Great's uncle's cousin's step son's half-brother's daughter's girlfriend...so you know it would never lie.

I just have a hard time believing that in this day and age with all the scientific instruments, testing, frequency scanning, different light images, the brightest minds on earth that someone reputable hasn't stepped forward with hardcore scientific proof. Miss Cleo doesn't count as hardcore proof

I would also like to mention that Northcat was part of the lawsuit filed against Miss Cleo and eventually put her out of business. She is a psychic you would have thought she would have saw it coming...try to charge me $384 for a 10 year old's phone calls...not exactly what I would call clairvoyant now was she?

What is EVP? I don't about the others except of ESP.

I did have some experiences of ESP and something did happen?

This doesn't happen much in my life, in fact rarely.

What you about to read as did happen as fact. I know some members wouldn't believe my story and I tell this as true.

ESP to me in my experience is a feeling of something just about to happen, in the near future or did just happen somewhere at a time.

Sept 11th was one example. I did get strong feeling of something on my way home and at WTC an hour later was it.

It can be warning of danger to me personally too. This did happen there.

Expecting to meet someone and did happen without any prior arrangement made. This did happen twice.

I also experienced some dreams later coming into reality.

I still really can’t explain what ESP is and how someone senses something of a phenomenon like this.

I believe we all have this sense in same way or another. You be the judge?

  21. Pseudoscientific crapola terminology is highly annoying. Like E.S.P. for instance. I believe that term came into common usage in my lifetime. (The other ones are newer but more of the same).

I much prefer an older expression: "Second Sight". Your subconscious mind occasionally becomes aware of something before your conscious mind. The process is mysterious and probably quite irrational, but there it is.

Further than that, I won't go. The rest is "bollocks". :P

    I belive

Even if 99.999% of reports are false
1 in 1 billion or 1 in 10 billion, it only takes 1

If the 1 could be found and identified what would be the reaction of the "powers that be"

Would that "1" ever let themselves be found ?

Given the scientific verifications of the electro output of the brain, why is it so hard to accept the possibility that there could be "1" that has greater ability/control.

How do you explain the "blind" clinical trials of the power of prayer in affecting the post surgey recovery.

The impossible is just that which has not been done yet.

    great example.

now, how many times have you expected to meet someone and they didn't show up? those events aren't as memorable, so they get forgotten, and the focus is on the times that you "hit".

same with "I was just thinking about X, and X called on the phone! We have a psychic bond!" - how many times did you think about X and no call came, or X called when you weren't thinking about them?

well, the clearest explanation seems to be that they are faulty : more info here.

Here's a neat URL that shows a few ghostly items.

    http://www.ebaumsworld.com/ghosts.html

Coolest thing is at the end where they discuss some technology or process that combines the use of video cameras and TV's to capture some odd images.

  26. Why did they have to ruin it at the end with that stupid scream thing that everyone is doing these days?

    It was so predictable.

On the issue of ghosts and weird stuff the university I go used to be a mental asylum for the criminally insane and has many of the old buildings used as classrooms. Whilst not saying if it is or isn't haunted the university does have a problem with retaining night security guards because of so called weird activities especially around the old hospital building.

Oh, that opens up all sorts of possibilities for creative practical jokes. Or is a pacmania joke in the past already the reason so many guards there are skittish?
